How are Medical Herbalists trained?

 

In the UK, the training to become a Medical Herbalist is a 3 year Bachelor of Science degree, which includes a minimum of 500 hours of clinical practice.

 

Study includes anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, physical examination techniques, general medicine and an in-depth study of many medicinal plants covering both traditional knowledge and modern scientific understanding.

 

Medical Herbalists are trained to understand potential adverse interactions between herbs and drugs. All patients are asked to bring current medications with them to the herbal consultation and will only be prescribed herbs that do not adversely interact with medicines given to them by their Doctor.
